1. Kingpin inclination angle The function of the kingpin inclination angle is to make the wheel automatically return to the right alignment. Usually the wheel axis is not on the horizontal plane. For convenience of explanation, it is assumed that the wheel axis is on the horizontal plane when driving straight. When the car is traveling in a straight line, the intersection angle between the wheel axis and the kingpin is exactly this maximum value. The angle between the wheel axis and the kingpin remains unchanged during the steering process. When the wheel turns an angle, the wheel axis tilts downward away from the horizontal plane, causing the vehicle body to lift up and the potential energy to increase. In this way, the gravity of the car itself has the effect of returning the steering wheel to its original middle position. When the car is parked horizontally, in the transverse vertical plane of the car, the angle between the kingpin axis and the vertical line on the ground is the kingpin inclination angle. |
2. Front wheel camber angle If the wheels are installed exactly perpendicular to the road surface when the vehicle is empty, the wheels may incline due to load deformation of the axle when the vehicle is fully loaded, which will accelerate tire wear. In addition, the axial component of the vertical reaction force of the road surface on the wheel along the wheel hub will press the wheel hub against the small bearing at the outer end, increasing the load on the small outer bearing and the hub fastening nut, reducing their lifespan. However, the camber angle should not be too large, otherwise it will cause uneven tire wear. 3. Front wheel toe-in When a wheel has a camber angle, it acts like a rolling cone when rolling, causing the wheels on both sides to roll outward. 3.Front wheel toe in
When the wheel has a camber angle, it is similar to a rolling cone when rolling, causing the wheels on both sides to roll outward. Due to the restraint of the tie rod and axle, the wheel will not roll outward, and the wheel will roll inward on the ground, thus increasing the wear of the tire. In order to avoid the adverse consequences caused by conical rolling effect, the two front wheels are properly deflected inward, that is, the front wheel toe in is formed.
